From the Mediterranean Microclimate to Your Table: High-Polyphenol, Low-Acidity Olive Oils of Osmaniye, Adana, Hatay & Mersin

Why This Region?

The fertile soils of the Çukurova Plain and the foothills of the Toros and Amanos Mountains enjoy a mild climate, optimal rainfall and abundant sunshine all year, producing olives with high polyphenol and low free-acidity levels and a refined flavour profile.

This microclimate contributes to the fruity, aromatic character typical of the region’s oils.

Osmaniye: Aromatic Olives from Kadirli to Düziçi

  • The red alluvial soils of Kadirli, Düziçi and Bahçe nourish olive roots with rich minerals.
  • Morning mists and Amanos breezes naturally boost the preservation of phenolic compounds.

Adana: Groves on the Toros Foothills of Kozan & Ceyhan

  • Kozan and Karaisalı groves are fed by mineral-rich waters from the Toros Mountains; early-harvest batches often measure around 0.4 % acidity. The figure varies from batch to batch.
  • Sea breezes from Ceyhan slow down polyphenol oxidation.

Hatay: Health-Packed Olives from Erzin to Samandağ

  • Erzin, Dörtyol and İskenderun infuse olives with a unique fresh aroma thanks to iodine-rich sea air.
  • The limestone-rich soils of Antakya and Samandağ intensify fruity undertones.

Mersin: Legendary Oil Varieties of Mut & Silifke

  • The elevation of Mut (~700 m) and its day-night temperature swing raise oleuropein levels.
  • The sandy-clayey texture of Tarsus, Erdemli and Gülnar balances moisture retention, boosting oil yield.

Quality Assurance at Akdeniz Birlik

  1. Early harvest and cold pressing: Pressing runs below 26 °C; the lower temperature helps preserve aroma and phenolic compounds.
  2. Our own lab: We measure free acidity at our Düziçi trading centre. The reading is for information only and is not a substitute for an accredited certificate.
  3. Traceability: Every batch is recorded with the region and date it came from.
